If this is your first time to my "Follow Friday" series, click here to find out more about this curious Twitter culture.
The gist is this: There are tweeps (Twitter people) whom I think are worth following. And I want my network to know about them so you'll have the benefit of knowing them, too. But, while the Twitter culture has adopted the pattern of simply listing names, I've decided to use this space every friday to give you more info about why I think the folks I recommend are worth recommending.
This week's follow friday list, in no particular order:
- @lizbittar. (aka, Liz Bittar.) Why? She is attentive to the professional needs of those in her network. Once you've exchanged a few replies with her, you're on her radar and she listens and she follows up. Case in point, I recently needed some help with case studies for a training program I'm putting together on social media. She was Johnny-on-the-spot. She did a bit of research on her own time and sent me a few helpful link sources. And, in all fairness, a few others did so, as well. (You'll undoubtedly see them in a future Follow Friday list.) However, as I said, she also follows up. (Key ingredient.) About a week later, she came across some other sources and, in doing so, immediately made the connection that it might be something I'd be interested in. She remembered... sent 'em my way. That's just one of many examples...Very cool, Liz, very cool. :)
- @morganb (aka, Morgan Brown) and @hensel (aka, Marieke Hensel). Why? They're local community builders and connectors. About a month ago I exchanged a few tweets with the general population in one of our local "hashtag" forums (a sort of keyword-based "group") on Twitter (the "#TwOrCo" forum... an Orange County, California-based local tweetup group). In those short exchanges, I mentioned the idea of maybe starting a local chapter of the national Social Media Club. Being the weenie that I am, I didn't run with the ball. Instead, some weeks later, Morgan and Marieke did just that. I doubt they did so on the basis of the Twitter discussion that I exchanged, but, just the fact that they did it is the cool factor in all this. BTW, you can find out more about the new Orange County Chapter of the Social Media Club here.
That's it for this week... If you're on Twitter, take a look at the three tweeps above. They're worth following. And, if you do, tell 'em, @MelAclaro sent ya. :)
