What I love about connecting to cool, inquisitive people who also happen to be well-connected is that if I have a question about something, chances are they've also had the same question and have leveraged the power of their network for the answer.
While I may not be as well-connected as some of my colleagues, I pay it forward when I can. (Part of the reason, I guess, that I blog here, as well as here and here.)
Problem: You're preparing a presentation to your networking group or to members of a local professional chapter. In your presentation you'd like to show a YouTube video that helps illustrate your point. How do you do that in a way that doesn't require you to arrange for an internet connection during the meeting?
Solution: Attribution for this gem goes to Tony Karrer on the eLearning Technology blog. In community fashion, Tony shared this bit of info from the (unofficial) Google Operating System blog where you can get a bit of code that will allow you to download YouTube videos to a local MP4 file format. (Viewable in, among other players, QuickTime and iTunes.)
And, in community fashion, I'm paying it forward.
It's worth a look. The bookmarklet can be easily dragged to your Links bar (if using Firefox or Safari). Alternatively, you can also right-click it and add it to your Favorites or Bookmarks folder. Look for the section with an image like the one below.
