~ President Woodrow Wilson
This one's off-topic from the stuff about learning, business an social media that I usually like to write about. But, I hope you'll agree, it's a worthy digression.
Veteran's day as it's known here in the U.S., or in other parts of the world: Armistice Day or Remembrance Day, is a day to remember our fallen troops (Pat Ardaiz, we still miss you, bro), and to honor those who have served or who currently serve in defense of their country--whether U.S. or otherwise.
Why November 11th? The day coincides with the time when hostilities between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect: the 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month. Though "The Great War" didn't officially come to an end until seven months later when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, November 11, 1918--when fighting stopped--has generally been regarded as the end of "the war to end all wars."
Though it's with hindsight we can say that it, unfortunately, wasn't the end of all wars, it's with insight and gratitude that I hope we all go out of our way today to shake the hand of a veteran and say "thank you for serving."
Bravo!
